presspeakki.net is a visual archive dedicated to documenting the everyday texture of Canadian city life: the people, streets, queues and quiet in-between moments that rarely make it into the news but make up the majority of what a city actually feels like.
Why we started this archive
Street and documentary photography have a long history of recording daily life honestly, without staging or direction. We started presspeakki.net because we noticed how quickly ordinary urban moments disappear — a queue outside a shop, a commuter on a platform, the particular light on a particular street corner — and how rarely they are kept as a deliberate visual record.
Our contributors work across Canadian cities, large and small, with a shared commitment to candid, unposed photography and to treating the people they photograph with respect.
What we believe the archive should be
Every photograph published on presspeakki.net is reviewed for context and honesty before it is added to the archive. We favour images that describe a place and a moment accurately over images that are simply visually striking.
The result is a growing, unpolished record of Canadian city life — a resource we hope will feel just as true a decade from now as it does today.
